Spring Cleaning

by Joel Brown, May 1, 2015

It’s that time of year again. The sun is shining; things are starting to look fresh and green. But just as you’re enjoying the view outside your window you realize: boy are those windows dirty! That’s right, it’s time for spring cleaning. You want to get a crystal clear view of the great times ahead, but first you’ve got some chores to do. All the grime built up on your windows over the long, dark winter needs to be cleaned away so you can get back to enjoying what’s just around the corner.

Just like our families’ homes, Solel, our shared Jewish home needs a kind of spring cleaning too. We’ve had a long dark winter full of roof construction, transition anxiety, and adapting to our changing circumstances. Very soon (July 1), our impressive new Rabbi, Audrey Pollack and her family will be joining us. Many of you got to meet Rabbi Pollack and Phil Subeck at our Yom HaShoah dinner and service on April 17. Solel’s summer promises to be warm and bright.

In order to be able to see our future clearly, however, we need to undertake our own spring cleaning ritual, the Solel Annual General Meeting. Our AGM is just a few days away: Monday, May 4, 2015 at 6:45pm. The AGM is an opportunity for you to engage directly with fellow Solelniks in shaping the future of our community. We will hear from our leadership, including Rabbi Pollack via Skype*, review our budget for the coming year, and elect our new board and executive.

Like your other chores, it’s important and you get a great sense of accomplishment when you’re done. Together with fellow Solelniks, let’s all work together to clarify our vision of the good times ahead for our Jewish home.
