Community Events

We invite you to join us on April 17th at 12:00 p.m. ET/ 9:00 a.m. PT for a powerful webinar, Six Months of Captivity: A Conversation with Rachel and Jon Goldberg-Polin.

Rachel and Jon Goldberg-Polin’s son Hersh was kidnapped from the Tribe of Nova music festival on October 7th. Since that day, Rachel has become the face of the international effort to bring home her son and all the hostages – meeting with world leaders, giving countless interviews, and speaking at the UN. “I am doing exactly what any mother would do if this were their child,” Rachel told the Wall Street Journal in February.

As we move into Pesach, the holiday of freedom and liberation, join us for this important opportunity to hear Rachel and Jon’s story and discuss what we can do to push for the immediate liberation of all hostages being held by Hamas.

The Toronto Holocaust Museum – together with Beth Emeth Synagogue, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre, Canadian Society for Yad Vashem, the Azrieli Foundation’s Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program, Facing History and Ourselves, and March of the Living Canada – is honoured to be presenting a community-wide Yom HaShoah commemoration, in person at Beth Emeth (100 Elder Street) on Sunday, May 5 at 7:00pm. You can learn more about the community wide event here.

The program will explore Holocaust remembrance in a post-October 7 world with keynote speaker Yoni Berrous from the International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem. Together, we will reflect on the life, spirituality, and vibrancy of prewar Jewish communities through an original short film. The program will also include a candle-lighting ceremony to pay tribute to the victims of the Shoah and to honour the survivors.

In Seven Days

In Seven Days

Through tears and laughter, In Seven Days explores what it means to live with grace and grapples with how we say goodbye to the people we love most. Thirty-year-old Rachel arrives at the home of her ailing father and his girlfriend for Shabbat dinner where her father makes a life-changing announcement. After years of suffering from extraordinary pain, Sam Adleman has decided to end his own life through medical assistance in dying. And he’s going to do it in seven days. Rachel, who’s always been close to her father, is devastated and stays the week to try and convince him not to do it. And when Rachel asks their Rabbi to get involved, Sam’s decision and the impact it has on the family only gets more complicated.
